The European division of Japanese sportswear brand Asics
has announced an overall net sales increase of 15.3% through 2011, with a
strong performance in running with sales of both footwear and apparel
growing by over 20%.
Tennis also saw double-digit growth in footwear and triple-digit growth in apparel.
According to the official release, growth was achieved in Austria, the Benelux and the UK, with further success experienced in central and northern Europe.

In 2011 the brand launched it's 'Made of Sport' campaign,
featuring French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre, trail runner Emmanuel
Gault and German triathlete Jan Frodeno as well as a number of other
Asics brand ambassadors and amateur athletes.
The release said: ‘Asics has also recently extended its
long-term-partnership with Paris and New York City Marathons and added
Barcelona Marathon and the ‘Dam tot Damloop’ – the biggest running event
in the Netherlands – to its roster of sponsored running events.’
‘Elsewhere in the business, Asics flagship stores across
Europe have comfortably exceeded sales targets and nearly 40 per cent of
sales now come from apparel. Asics is set to open a new flagship store
in Stockholm (May), and recently announced the opening of a second store
in London on Oxford Street (June) and new stores in Barcelona (August)
and Madrid (September).’
‘In a challenging 2011, Asics
has performed well and delivered an outstanding 15 per cent rise in
revenues," said Asics Europe chief executive Alistair Cameron. "The
consumer demand is driving high sell through for retailers and the ‘Made
of Sport’ brand campaign, which is being advertised in all major
markets, is contributing to this. The brand continues to be in great
shape for 2012.’
