Busines news : Mercury invests $20 million in US facilities

To help maintain its position as the world’s leading marine engine manufacturer, Mercury Marine is investing $US20 million ($A19.2 million) to further develop facilities at its headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA.

Two major construction projects are at the heart of the development, which will deliver significant improvements across a range of important areas.

'It’s all about growth and commitment to technology and product development,' said Mark Schwabero, President of Mercury Marine.

The investment will see an enhanced capacity in Mercury’s product development, engineering, component manufacturing and fabrication.

Product testing is another area to benefit, with Mercury Diesel products being accommodated along with sterndrive and inboard engines.

'All of which will help keep Mercury at the forefront of boating – delivering better products which out-perform and out-last the competition – and that will make our dealers stronger across the ANZP region,' said John Temple, Mercury’s General Manager for the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific region.

At the ground breaking ceremony, Mr Schwabero used the same shovel which broke the ground when the Fond du Lac plant was originally built almost 50 years ago.

It’s expected the new facilities will be fully operational by the end of 2013.
