Washington, DC (November 15, 2013) -- An increase in early hotel bookings and booth space commitments plus new events all indicate the 2013 SIA Snow Show (January 31-February 3) is on track for bringing snow sports’ largest gathering back to Denver, Colorado. Member-owned and industry-inspired, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) is the national, non-profit trade association that represents core and on-the-rise suppliers and service providers of snow sports equipment, apparel and accessories.
Scheduled for January 31 – February 3, at the Colorado Convention Center, the 2013 SIA Snow Show four-day event expects to draw over 19,000 attendees including suppliers, retailers, reps, athletes, media and professionals from across the globe. The Snow Show, which sold out in booth space last May, will feature over 950 snow sports brands covering over 334,000 net square feet of exhibit space including 40 new exhibitors that are brand new to the Show or returning after taking a hiatus.
Hotel blocks for the Snow Show are going fast with nightly rates down an impressive 20% from 2010, the Show’s first year in Denver. Lodging is also open and filling-up for the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, held on February 4-5, 2013, at Winter Park Resort with a new one-day Nordic Demo on February 4, at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
“The number of hotel bookings we’re seeing this early in the season is impressive – last year was a shock to everyone’s system, but there’s plenty of optimism about the upcoming year,” said David Ingemie, SIA’s President.

One of the biggest additions to the Snow Show schedule is SIA’s new Sourcing Snow trade show, which starts one day prior to the Snow Show and runs January 30 – February 1. Sourcing Snow will showcase top component and textile suppliers essential to snow sports brands and expects to draw several hundred attendees to the inaugural event.
The Snow Fashion & Trends Show will be held on a new night, Wednesday, January 30 at the Colorado Convention Center’s Mile High Ballroom. The annual runway show never fails in getting the crowd going with models working the catwalk in the hottest styles for 2013-14.
“I enjoy going to Denver and getting away from the store. It is exciting to see what is new and begin to plan for the upcoming year. There is no way to recreate those first steps into the convention center on the opening morning of the SIA Snow Show,” commented Todd Atkinson, Buchika’s Ski & Bike, Salem, NH.
New education panel sessions planned around Rental World/Backshop & Uniform, presented by SAM Magazine and TransWorld Business, focus on the rental markets in ski and snowboard and increasing participation. The full line up of Show seminars will be announced late November.
After making its debut last year, Backcountry Experience is on the Show floor again highlighting the best in backcountry hardgoods and accessories while delivering the "Must Knows" in safety and education. Each afternoon backcountry experts will be on-hand to share their insight on topics such as: proper route finding, gear selection, beacon basics, and avalanche warning signs.
Other not-to-be-missed events include the National Ski Patrol’s 75th Anniversary Celebration, OIWC Thought Leaders Keynote & Awards Presentation/Breakfast featuring Burton’s Donna Carpenter, TransWorld Riders’ Poll Awards, Art of Winter, SKI Magazine’s Gold Shop Awards, and brand-hosted parties on the Show Floor and throughout downtown Denver.
Following the Denver Snow Show, the industry heads back out to the On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest, a two day event (Feb. 4-5) at Winter Park Resort and one day Nordic Demo at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. The Uphill/Downhill Challenge, an endurance race raising money for the US Ski Mountaineering Team returns along with the Malakye’s Office Booyz & Girlz Competition. At night, the industry will head up to the Two Mile High Fest starting at 7P ‘til late at the top of Winter Park.
The Nordic Demo returns to Devil’s Thumb Ranch, with a new one-day demo format on Monday, February 4. Nordic buyers will be greeted with an opening reception and state of the market presentation on Sunday, February 3, plus an après party, and events among the beautifully groomed Nordic trails and amazing surroundings of Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
“No other event gives dealers the chance to test gear head to head like DTR. Key manufacturers are there with all levels and categories of skis and boots. The tracks and terrain are perfect for testing. It is the perfect event for a dealer to determine what to carry,” said Rick Halling, Fischer U.S. Nordic Division.
The On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest is hosted in-conjunction with the Western Winter Sports Reps Association’s (WWSRA) Rocky Mountain Demo and in partnership with Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA).
