Partnership promotes eco-friendly production process in textile supply chain
Bergans of Norway has joined as a bluesign®
system partner, the company announced today. The partnership will give
Bergans access to textile supply line experts to help further minimize
its environmental impact, reduce resource consumption and eliminate
substances that could pose a risk to the health of workers, end
consumers and the environment.
Headquartered in Switzerland,
bluesign technologies ag is an international network that functions as a
third party, independent system and a standard for the textile
industry.
"Bergans and our supplier partners have always been a
driver of textile technology, while remaining sensitive to
sustainability and environmental concerns," said Christiane Dolva,
Bergans of Norway's Corporate Responsibility Manager. "Connecting with
an independent organization like bluesign not only helps us promote
better working processes in our own supply line but provides a wealth of
knowledge for us to make the best possible decisions when we source
materials."
Bergans joins apparel leaders from the outdoor and
active wear industries including The North Face, Black Diamond and
lululemon athletica in adopting the bluesign system.
Beyond
taking a close look at the input stream of raw materials, chemicals and
resources used in Bergans products, bluesign system has many partner
chemical manufacturers so brands can benefit from testing and research
on coatings and other molecular-level inputs along the manufacturing
process.
The bluesign system also assures retailers that the
products from a participating company contains only materials that are
harmless to the environment and people and are in compliance with
high-level environmental, health and safety guidelines that assure a
long-lasting investment in consumer trust.
Bergans is also
certified by Environmental Lighthouse, a Norwegian environmental system
standard that focuses on environmental, health and safety, material
consumption, waste handling and transport emissions. Environmental
Lighthouse's initiatives are supported and recommended by the Norwegian
Ministry of the Environment.
