HANWAG BRINGS PREMIUM OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR COLLECTION TO NORTH AMERICA
(Boulder, CO) May , 2013― Since its establishment in 1921, German boot company Hanwag has combined handmade craftsmanship, technical innovation and durability to produce footwear suitable for a range of outdoor activities including high altitude climbing, bouldering and trekking. As part of the Fenix Outdoor North America portfolio, Hanwag will amplify its brand presence in North America in 2013 with the debut of an assortment of premium outdoor footwear, handmade in Europe, as well as a new website and expanded retail doors.
“Prior to this, Hanwag was only known to the most avid hunting and outdoor enthusiasts in North America,” said Nathan Dopp, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hanwag. “We are excited to provide more accessibility to these exceptional boots and grow awareness to the Hanwag art of handcrafted shoemaking that has gone unchanged for more than 90 years.”
Hanwag was founded with the craft of the double-stitched technique as a platform, and still uses the labor-intensive method and premium materials that have made the brand the “go-to” trekking boot in Europe. Remaining one of the few companies to use the technique worldwide, Hanwag also draws on their heritage to continually reinvent it. Today, the brand makes a cross section of fully re-soleable shoes that are unsurpassed on a day hike or one of the world’s most technical climbs. Key 2013 collections currently available in the U.S. and Canada at www.hanwag.com and select retailers include:
DOUBLE-STITCH COLLECTION
The core Double-Stitch collection provides the unique performance of a traditional hiking boot with a genuine double-stitched sole. The collection offers re-soleable, durable and premium boots best suited for everyday outdoor use, hiking and winter activities. All boots in the Double-Stitch category are handcrafted in Germany.
ICEGRIP COLLECTION
The IceGrip sole is the latest sole innovation from Hanwag, launching in Fall-Winter 2013. The foundation for the IceGrip sole technology is the microscopic glass particles that embed into the rubber thread blocks. These fine particles scratch into the surface of the ice to provide maximum friction and a secure grip. Hanwag is the first boot maker to develop a sole with enhanced traction for use on ice and the sole technology was tested for three years before launching in select models this fall.
YAK COLLECTION
Hanwag’s Yak collection features robust, hydrophobic yak leather sourced from the Lhasa Leather Factory in Tibet. The yak leather is used in four boot styles and caters to an array of uses from casual wear to trekking. The Yak boot range is exceptionally hard-wearing, yet surprisingly supple.
TREK COLLECTION
The Hanwag trek offering provides a range of boot options for low intensity trekking and hiking. The use of proprietary last designs ensure an optimal fit and make boots in this category perfect for rough terrain and a heavy backpack. Trek-Light, also under the Trek category, provides a series of soft rolling shoes for trail hiking. A selection of the trek boots feature the proprietary Vibram sole AW Integral specifically made for Hanwag to provide optimal support and flexibility.
ROCK COLLECTION
The Rock collection incorporates all-season comfort and high-performance technologies to create lightweight boots best suited for rocky approaches, bouldering and mixed terrain. Boots are offered in high, mid and low profile silhouettes.
ALPIN COLLECTION
The Alpin collection features robust designs for high altitude outdoor activities and are fully crampon-compatible. Boots in this category incorporate a thermal insulation, protecting the foot in temperatures as low as -5° Fahrenheit, ideal for glaciers, mountaineering and ice climbing. The Alpin Collection boots are all handmade in Germany.
HUNTING COLLECTION
A combination of premium materials and top-level performance attributes make Hanwag’s Hunting collection the best footwear choice for high-end hunting and outdoor activities. Field tested by the federal and national police force in Canada, the collection is built to withstand rough wear and provide support through extended use.
