KEEN Inc., the creator of innovative hybrid products for outdoor enthusiasts, is launching an intensive consumer testing program this summer on the Pacific Crest Trail. One of the world’s longest-lasting socks, the KEEN Olympus hiking socks are constructed to withstand 2663 miles of the PCT and beyond.
Last week, KEEN gave more than 130 pairs of Olympus socks to thru-hikers at the PCT kickoff event in Campo, CA. KEEN also anointed 14 hikers as KEEN PCT Olympus Ambassadors, supplying them with Olympus socks for their entire journey.
The PCT stretches from southern California to Canada and ranges in elevation from sea level to more than 13,000 feet. The route passes through 25 national forests and seven nation parks. Averaging 20 miles of hiking each day for up to six months, KEEN’s PCT Olympus Ambassadors will put their socks through the toughest conditions.
“We’re thrilled to have the Olympus put to the test this summer on the Pacific Crest Trail. Our ambassadors are going to give us so much great information about how the socks perform on their journeys,” said Tim McGuire, Business Unit Director for Bags and Socks at KEEN. “We believe the Olympus socks will stand up to any adventure. The PCT is a perfect testing ground.”
Throughout their journeys, the Olympus Ambassadors will send technical information on the performance of the socks back to the KEEN product team, as well as update their own blogs about their adventures from the trail. Fans can follow the Olympus PCT Ambassadors on social media with the hashtag #OlympusPCT.
What makes the Olympus so indestructible? The body of the sock is made of moisture-wicking, non-itch merino wool while the toe and heel are reinforced with Dura-Zone, which contains a patented fiber proven to be 15 times stronger than steel.
The socks are both durable and comfortable thanks to a range of new technologies. Heel Hold, the new heel pocket construction, provides a snug fit and continuous comfort. Plus, the Olympus socks feature a 90-degree angle between the ankle and foot and KEEN’s signature left and right fit. Both attributes allow the Olympus socks to perfectly envelope the shape of each foot.
