Prescription Ski Goggles have been significantly
impacted by technology in every aspect. This season's anti-fog features
are better, lens tints are high fashion as well as highly functional,
and goggles designs are more comfortable than ever before.

Prescription Ski Goggles
have been methodically tested each of the past six years by ADS Sports
Eyewear. New goggle features this year have created some serious
enthusiasm about the upcoming season. Smith Ski Goggles
have a photo-chromic goggle lens and a redesigned anti-fog fan that is
almost completely silent. Spy Ski Goggles added some very cool colors to
their line of ski goggles with the patented “Scoop” venting system. And
the Big “O” Ski Goggles have some of our favorite styles with several
great contrast lens options that you will recognize from their popular
line of sunglasses. (We can’t publish the name of this company without
corporate approval, and that takes way too long. So you have to figure
out who the Big “O” is on your own.)Fogging is consistently the biggest challenge for skiers. When warm air hits a cold lens it will either fog or the moisture will run off the lens as condensation. A clean lens will not fog as fast as a lens that has not been wiped down in a while, and anti-fog treatments vary dramatically in effectiveness. ADS Sports Eyewear tested every anti-fog treatment they had access to by applying each coating to the left half of a lens and leaving the other half untreated. Lenses were stored in a freezer then steamed with a commercial fabric steamer. This is a summary of the discoveries:
- Only one of the treatments applied by a commercial optical laboratory worked better than adding a standard Anti Reflective Coating (AR Coat) to the lens. This treatment added $135.00 to the price of the lenses. An Anti Reflective coating was almost as effective and only adds $59.00.
- Coatings that go on as a paste wax were infinitely better than liquid coatings, and the paste did not have to be reapplied as often.
Spy Ski Goggles have a unique “Scoop” that directs air through their dual lens system. This is a very effective way to reduce fog. Naturally this is most effective when you are skiing as opposed to waiting in a line. The Big “O” Goggles have tons of vents and very breathable foam. This foam not only helps move air through the goggle, it is also very comfortable.
ADS Sports Eyewear applies a free anti fog coating to the prescription lenses in every pair of prescription ski goggles. This is an effective way to reduce fogging. Combining this with a Turbo Goggle is absolutely the best way to prevent fogging.
ADS Sports Eyewear specializes in prescription ski goggles and prescription sunglasses for sports. All prescription lenses are surfaced with the new free-form digital technology that eliminates the “fishbowl effect” typically associated with prescriptions on curved lenses. Most ADS Sports Eyewear sales are generated through their web site, http://www.ADSEyewear.com/.
