Award : Men's Journal Gives Bergans Glittertind Pack 'Gear of the Year' Award

Bergans of Norway’s Glittertind Backpack Wins Men’s Journal Gear of the Year Award

SPINE carrying system-equipped pack adds latest honor to string of recent awards

LONGMONT, Colo. – November 26, 2013 – Bergans of Norway is elated to announce that  Men’s Journal has selected its Glittertind backpack for one of its 2013 Gear of the Year awards. Each year the publication’s editors review products in categories such as apparel, automotive, home, sports and fitness, outdoor, and technology. The products receiving the awards are highlighted in the publication’s December issue.

The Glittertind pack is highlighted in the outdoor category because of its SPINE carrying system, a double helix-shaped spring steel frame attached to the pack’s back panel allowing the shoulders and hips to move freely while still offering load support. Men’s Journal editors called the Glittertind, “The most comfortable backpack ever made.”

The Men’s Journal award is the third honor the Glittertind has received since its introduction. At the 2012 OutDoor trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, it won the show’s prestigious OutDoor Industry Award, and just last month Backpacker Magazine gave the Glittertind one of its 2013 Editors’ Choice awards as well.

“The Men’s Journal Gear of the Year award is another great honor for the company and the innovation we’re driving in a very competitive market,” said Keith Patterson, Bergans USA’s vice president of sales and marketing. “A lot of brands we admire around the world have won this award over the years and it’s a huge honor to be counted among them.”

Bergans is not new to innovation or packs. Its rich history of pack development was sparked in 1908 when Ole F. Bergan cut and shaped a juniper branch to match the curve of his back and attached it to his heavy, loose-fitting rucksack, a design now mirrored in every anatomical backpack produced today.

“We first fell in love on a hike in the Rocky Mountains,” said Men’s Journal editors. “On a tricky slope the Glittertind 55 liter moved so fluidly with us, we forgot we were wearing it. Of the nearly 90 packs we tested, none was as supportive as this spacious, well-organized hauler.”

In addition to being featured in Men’s Journal’s Gear of the Year December issue, the pack was also prominently highlighted in their November Gear Lab Special Edition on page 56.

The Glittertind is available in 70 and 55-liter versions and in small, medium and large sizes to fit a broad range of torso lengths. MSRP is $259.00 and $239.00 respectively.
