Business news : International Sports Organizations Generate Billions for Switzerland

International sports organizations in Switzerland generated a total gross value added of around CHF 1,460 million and about 8,000 full-time equivalent jobs, according to a study commissioned by FIFA, the governing body of international soccer.

The study by the research firm Rütter+Partner analysed 67 international sports organizations based in Switzerland. It takes into account both the direct and indirect economic impact as well as the impact of their committee meetings and congresses on tourism. The study counted with the participation of sports bodies such as FIFA, International Olympic Committee, International Ice Hockey Federation, Union of European Football Associations.

“The number of international sports organisations in Switzerland is unique,” said Walter De Gregorio, FIFA’s director of communications and public affairs. “As football’s world governing body and one of the biggest international sports organizations in Switzerland, FIFA considers it as part of its responsibility to contribute with facts and figures to relevant public policy discussions on the role and impact of the activities of these organizations in the country.”
