Boat show organisers say the event is being revamped in light of the latest positive data from the leisure boat market
Fira de Barcelona, organiser of the Barcelona International Boat Show, has announced that this year's show is being revamped to target the trend revealed in the latest data in the recreational boat market.
"The latest data from the recreational boat market in Spain shows that the crisis is touching rock bottom that will give way to a slow recovery of demand,” comments show director Jordi Freixas.
“We have to be prudent but we believe that this edition can mark a turning point in sector sales. In any case, we will continue to dedicate our efforts to attracting buyers from more dynamic economies, such as Germany, France and Russia, and also foreign residents in our country,” he adds.
Carlos Sanlorenzo, secretary general of the Spanish trade association ANEN, has welcomed the dates for this year’s show as it avoids an overlap with other international shows taking place at the time. Commenting on the latest boat registration figures, however, Sanlorenzo says: “The nautical market's performance in February, with a 5% growth, is positive but some time will have to pass before domestic demand is stronger and therefore the show has to focus on international markets.”
In addition, the Barcelona show organiser has revealed the results of the opinion poll conducted by Fira de Barcelona at the show in 2013. The study, based on a sample group of 300, show that 48.2% of visitors came to the show to find out about innovations in the nautical market and 23.7% visited to buy.
Of the latter group, 54.9% wished to acquire nautical accessories, 25.4% motorboats, 18.3% inflatable boats, and 9.9% sailboats. 75% stated they were satisfied with their visit and considered they had met their goals. The poll also shows that 90% of visitors had attended the show in previous years, and 90.3% said they would return in 2014.
The event will take place from 15-19 October 2014 at Marina Port Vell. The venue will concentrate all activities and exhibitions for the third year running.
