Nike knows that athletes can't
improve what they can't measure and that better information provides
greater motivation. To give all athletes an accurate and universal way
to measure their daily activity Nike created NikeFuel in 2012. Uniquely
designed to measure whole-body movement regardless of the wearer's age,
weight or gender, NikeFuel tracks activity in an intuitive and
motivational way. It allows users to compare NikeFuel output with other
users or with elite athletes across different types of activity.
Nike can deliver extra motivation and insights by analyzing collective NikeFuel data and informing athletes how performance is impacted by various factors. On the eve of summer, Nike taps the power of NikeFuel data and 2013 weather data to show Nike+ users how temperature, rain and snow impacted their own physical activity, and to share activity patterns from across the U.S.
A key fact that stands out from the data is that the sweet spot for physical activity in the US is 66°. That's the magic temperature at which the Nike+ community moves the most, earning an average of 3,304 NikeFuel.
Additional NikeFuel Weather Activity Map findings:
thletes at all levels are using NikeFuel across the Nike+ ecosystem to measure and improve their performance through Nike+ Apps including Nike+ Running, Nike+ Training Club, Nike+ FuelBand, and Nike+ Move. And everyday consumers love earning NikeFuel and have shared success stories around changing their lives through the motivation it provides. Additionally, through the recently announced Nike+ Fuel Lab, Nike aims to expand its NikeFuel platform with industry-leading companies including MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper and Strava. By integrating NikeFuel into these companies’ products, over 100 million potential new athletes will be able to use NikeFuel to measure, motivate and improve. These partnerships will give athletes a common universal currency to monitor and evaluate their many forms of activity.

"The real power of NikeFuel is in the quality of the motivation and information we can give back to the athlete from the activity they do," said Jenny Campbell, Director of NikeFuel & Consumer Knowledge at Nike. "Once an athlete really knows what they're achieving on a daily basis, and the key factors influencing that performance, they can then make better informed decisions to improve. Whether that's using the right Hyperwarm layer on a cold run or increasing the number of Nike+ Training Club core workouts they do in a week."See more data trends at ihe NikeFuel Weather Activity Map, Nike+ Account holders who had a Nike+ FuelBand SE for at least 30 days* in 2013, can log in to see exactly how the weather impacted their movement in 2013, and also see their Year in Fuel metrics for their daily and weekly movement for all of 2013.
