CARLSBAD, CA-- Apr 23, 2014) - iM Custom announced today its official launch as a developer of next-generation footwear technology and custom insole production serving both the medical community and retailers. As part of its U.S. launch, iM Custom will debut its dynamic 3D Gel Foot Scanner, a first-of-its-kind scanner that combines science and technology to perfect a 3D imprint of a person's soles.
The scanners will make their introduction in select Good Feet stores as part of phased multi-store deployment beginning this month. Good Feet operates over 100 locations in the U.S. and is the first major retail brand to acquire the iM Custom scanner to enhance their current footwear product offering.
Using iM Custom's Dynamic 3D Gel Foot Scanner doctors and foot care specialists can now view their customers' feet in motion, real-time in 3D, weight bearing or non-weight bearing. The startup's technology has been designed so its scanner can communicate wirelessly between its native Android application on a tablet and its cloud network.
Utilizing its cloud based proprietary patented code, iM Custom can recognize, triangulate and present a person's 3D foot pattern to an accuracy of plus or minus 1mm and can convert any or all images into a mesh 3D STL file format, used for CAD CAM design, insole manufacturing and or foot care management.
"iM Custom has partnered with some of the most respected scientists and doctors across the globe to develop the Dynamic 3D Gel Foot Scanner, a device that has the capacity to correct millions of foot, knee, hip and back ailments caused by a generic insole in the shoe not matching the arches in a person's feet," said Glen Hinshaw, CEO and founder of iM Custom.
"As a former world champion velodrome cyclist, my body suffered from using a generic insole in my race shoes and I have spent the last decade refining the science and technology in foot scanners to a point where their by-product, custom and semi-custom Lock-Fit insoles, can be affordable for the general population."
After a person places their feet on the Dynamic 3D Gel Scanner the device will run through a scanning cycle in just 10 seconds. Once the individual's imprint of their soles has been digitally uploaded to a tablet connected wirelessly to the scanner, the customer or patient can purchase either a performance Lock-Fit premade insole or a customized insole from the retailer, or in a medical office the podiatrist can make further enhancements to the digital imprint before sending it to iM Custom to produce the custom insole using its in-house CAD CAM system.
