Wilson Sporting Goods Co. appointed consumer marketing guru Amy Weisenbach as its new VP of marketing, effective May 19.
“Amy’s immense creativity and strategic marketing chops are exactly
what the doctor ordered as Wilson makes a coordinated and concerted push
to reclaim its status as an innovator and disruptor in the Sporting
Goods industry,” said Mike Dowse, President of Wilson.
“We are at an
exciting and critical inflection point in Wilson's history, with our
digital and smart product launches, new investments in re-launching our
brand, and our recommitment to groundbreaking R&D.”
With
Weisenbach’s appointment, Tom Gruger — her predecessor — will be moving
into a role that focuses fulltime on the Wilson digital onslaught. “As
our new VP of Digital, Tom’s role is critical to our future, and to the
creation of our line of connected products,” Dowse added.
Weisenbach comes to Wilson after a stellar history of marketing firsts and turnarounds.
She
spent 3 years at Beam where she led the U.S. Tequila portfolio and
successfully turned around performance from a double-digit decline to
the fastest growing tequila portfolio in the U.S. in both value and
volume. She repositioned multiple brands and led a large portfolio
management turnaround effort.
Amy also spent 6 years at Unilever
working on AXE – the #1 male grooming brand in the world. Most
recently, she was responsible the U.S. launch of AXE hair. During her
time on AXE, the brand received a Clio Award for Advertiser of the
Year. Additionally, Amy was named a Woman to Watch by Ad Age in 2012.
Weisenbach
was most recently VP of Marketing for Trunk Club – a revolutionary new
men’s apparel e-Tailer that pairs clients with their own personal
shopper.
The news of Weisenbach stepping in as the company’s new
VP of Marketing is the latest in a series of major announcements and
activities following the appointment of Mike Dowse as the company’s new
President, including the recent news of Wilson’s revolutionary new
connected basketball which will be released later this year.
