Strava Updates Mobile App

New Features Include Goal Tracking, Auto-Pause and Apple iOS 8 Integration

Strava, the online network connecting the global community of athletes, has released a new version of its mobile app that incorporates weekly goals to help athletes track and improve their athletic performance. The feature allows members to set running and cycling goals by distance or time and to visualize their progress toward achieving their goals. Other additions to the Strava app include auto-pause and integration with Apple’s iOS 8.

“Goal setting is one of the most popular features on Strava.com, and for good reason: it’s an important motivational tool for every athlete,” said Alex Mather, vice president of product design at Strava. “Our data shows that members who set goals ride and run twice as often as those who don’t set goals.”

Runners and cyclists craving more accurate speeds and splits will benefit from the addition of auto-pause, now available for all iOS and Android devices running Strava’s mobile app. The new feature intelligently pauses and restarts the recording of an activity when an athlete has momentarily stopped – for example, when stopping for a traffic signal.

Strava’s app is also integrated with Apple’s iOS 8. Now, Strava members can start and stop the recording of their activities through a new Notification Center widget, eliminating the need to navigate to the Strava app during a workout. The widget also displays real-time activity information including elapsed time, speed or pace, and total distance traveled.
Pricing and availability

The Strava app, version 4.2, is available in the App Store today and will soon be available in Google Play. Strava’s mobile app is free and comes with the option of Premium membership that provides exclusive features including in-depth analytics, motivational tools like instant results, weekly goal tracking and member-only rewards and benefits. Strava Premium membership is available for $6 USD per month or $59 per year.
