Under Armour Connected Fitness™ apps launch with 24/7 Activity Tracking, simplified device connectivity and new iPhone® layouts
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 18, 2014 -- Today the Under Armour Connected Fitness Team unveiled major app upgrades for iOS 8. The updates are packed with the latest health and fitness features including all-day activity tracking. The award-winning suite of apps, including MapMyRun, MapMyRide, MapMyFitness, MapMyHike, MapMyWalk, and Under Armour Women are available for download from the App Store (mmf.cc/mapmyrunupdate), and highlight the company's open approach with direct connectivity to top Connected Fitness devices.
With the new 24/7 Activity Graph feature, members can view all-day activity including steps, sleep, workouts, total distance, calories burned and more. The data is collected by connecting a compatible 24/7 activity tracking device, such as the Jawbone UP and Withings Pulse, or by using the M7 or M8 motion coprocessor available in the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Unique to the update is a data unification feature, which provides a single view of daily fitness, removing duplication if a workout was simultaneously tracked with a wearable and the app. This feature is in high demand, as athletes increasingly use activity trackers for daily fitness, but use GPS capabilities on MapMyRun and MapMyRide for tracking workouts.
Also prominent in this update is seamless connection to third-party apps and devices. The MapMyFitness suite of apps and Under Armour Women app integrates with more than 400 fitness tracking devices, apps and wearables. Available apps and device partners highlighted include Armour39, Jawbone, MyFitnessPal and SUUNTO.
"From day one of our mobile business in 2008, our team has understood the need to provide an open product and platform. Giving athletes the ability to connect to the apps and devices that matter most to them has proven to be important to the community," said Robin Thurston, SVP of Connected Fitness & Digital. "By capturing 24/7 data and expanding our third-party device compatibility, we're providing a snapshot of health and fitness data in a whole new way."
As part of the iOS 8 updates, the MapMyFitness suite of apps and the Under Armour Women app are visually optimized for the larger screen sizes of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. To get started with these new features, download the new MapMyRun or Under Armour Women apps from the App Store at mmf.cc/mapmyrunupdate.
