Now in its ninth year, the Arc’teryx Deep Winter Photo Challenge brings six of the world’s best ski & snowboard photographers together for three days of high-level competition while contending with some of the North America’s most challenging weather conditions. The task: To embrace the weather and capture the on-mountain action, and then create a five-minute slideshow for a crowd of over 1100 attendees and a panel of five expert judges at the Deep Winter Gala at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler on January 10th at 7:00 pm.
The winning shooter not only takes home $5,000 in cash and the ‘King Of Storms’ crown but also secures their spot in Arc’teryx’s King Of Dolomites photo competition taking place in Italy’s Dolomite region in February 2015. Currently, the brave and talented photographers that have accepted the Arc’teryx Deep Winter Challenge include Ben Girardi, Adam Barker, Grant Gunderson, and Tal Roberts.
To further celebrate the Deep Winter Photo Challenge, Arc’teryx invites everyone to share their own Deep Winter photos on Instagram and Twitter. By simply tagging these photos with #DEEPWINTER15 and #ARCTERYX, images will show up in the main gallery giving participants a chance to win brand new Arc’teryx gear. The top 5 photos each month (chosen by the pro photographers) will be posted for voting by the public. Those with most votes win an Atom LT Jacket or Atom LT Hoody.
A highly anticipated event that sells out annually, tickets for the Deep Winter Gala at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler go on sale on December 5th and are available via Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations or online at WhistlerBlackcomb.com. The official Deep Winter after Party will take place immediately after the competition at Merlin’s in Whistler with a live DJ and drink specials compliments of Smirnoff.
The Arc’teryx Deep Winter Photo Challenge Presented by Gore-Tex® is produced in conjunction with the support of Whistler Blackcomb, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Kokanee, Avalanche Canada, Atomic Skis, Coast Mountain Culture Magazine, Whistler Heli-Skiing, Smirnoff, and Pique Magazine.
