America's Leading Sock Brand Also Joins #GivingTuesday Initiative to Make the Holiday Season More Comfortable for those Who Need It Most
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Dec. 2, 2014-- Hanes®, America's No. 1 sock brand, is bringing comfort to those in need this holiday season. The brand will donate 150,000 pair of socks at various Salvation Army locations across the country, bringing the total donations of socks that Hanes has made since 2009 to 1.5 million pair of socks.
Socks are one of the most requested but least donated items to homeless shelters across the country. "Hanes knows the importance of comfort, especially during the holiday season," said Sidney Falken, chief branding officer, Hanes. "Socks are essential items that often go overlooked when people donate to those in need. The Hanes brand is glad to be able to provide these necessities and encourages everyone to give back throughout the holiday season."
To encourage others to donate as well, Hanes will place a link on hanes.com from December 2 through December 31, 2014, that will allow consumers to donate directly to The Salvation Army at http://bit.ly/TSADonation.
Also, Hanes today will join with the #GivingTuesday initiative, a global day dedicated to giving back, to donate socks and document the plight of those in need as temperatures drop.
Hanes is donating socks in partnership with homeless advocate Mark Horvath as he documents the homelessness issue in New York City. As the founder of Invisible People, an advocacy group for the homeless, Horvath has worked with Hanes for three years in an effort to raise awareness of America's homelessness issue. "I have firsthand experience going through what these individuals are currently facing," Horvath said, "I think that the work that Hanes is doing to donate socks to the homeless is an amazing act and is giving people a small luxury that is in actuality a coveted necessity."
Horvath and Hanes partnered to develop a compelling social content series that shines a spotlight on the issue of homelessness in New York City through Vine videos and still imagery. The series features the faces and stories of the homeless and the important role socks play in day-to-day survival.
