2015 Nike Hoop Summit: World Select Team Announced

The 11-member World Select Team was announced today for the 2015 Nike Hoop Summit, the premier annual basketball game featuring many of the world’s leading basketball players age 19 years old or younger. The 18th annual Nike Hoop Summit will take place at the Moda Center, in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, April 11.

The annual game pits the World Select Team against the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team that is composed of elite American high school seniors. An incredible 165 Hoop Summit alumni have been drafted professionally. As of January 2015, 94 Hoop Summit alumni were active in the NBA, nearly one-quarter of the entire league.

The World Team at Nike Hoop Summit 2015 will be led by fifth-year coach Roy Rana, who currently has a 2-2 record in the series and, in 2013, became the first coach in Hoop Summit history to lead his team to back-to-back victories. Rana is a nine-year veteran of Canadian national team basketball and was appointed head coach of Canada’s Junior National Team in 2012, leading them to bronze medal in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Brazil and a place in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in Prague. Coach Rana led Canada to bronze at the inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship in Germany in 2010, the latest in a long list of international honors which also includes two bronze medals and three silvers with Canada at the Nike Global Challenge from 2006-12. Coach Rana will again be assisted by Serbia's Marin Sedlacek, who is making his 15th Hoop Summit appearance.

Look Back

The United States holds a 12-5 advantage in the Nike Hoop Summit.  Apart from the victories in 2012 and 2013, the other three World Team victories came in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a 104-96 margin; in 1998 in San Antonio, Texas, when, famously, Dirk Nowitzki recorded 33 points and 14 rebounds in a 104-99 victory; and in 2009 by a 97-89 margin at the Rose Garden.
The list of World alumni currently active in the league includes Andrea Bargnani, Nicolas Batum, Anthony Bennett, Bismack Biyombo, Omri Casspi, Evan Fournier, Serge Ibaka, Cory Joseph, Enes Kanter, Sergey Karasev, Patrick Mills, Donatas Motiejunas, Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Vladimir Radmanovic, Luis Scola, Kevin Seraphin, Dennis Schröder and Tristan Thompson.
