VeloComputer offers a complete solution for
cyclists combining power of a smartphone with reliability of ANT+
displays and smart watches, like Android Wear. The smartphone can be
safely placed in a pocket or under a seat with display off to conserve
battery while feeding the data in real-time to ANT+ displays and smart
watches.
Many riders use cycling apps on their smartphones. A modern smartphone has sufficient computing power to record, process and share online their tracks and workouts. However, smartphones are not designed for outdoor sports, particularly for cycling. When mounted on the handlebar they are bulky and fragile. ANT+ displays and smart watches are better suited for outdoor usage. ANT+ cycling displays like Garmin Edge are popular for their rigidity but lack broadband connectivity. Smart watches are lightweight wearables but lack computing power for fast data processing.
Combining power and broadband connectivity of a smartphone with reliability of cycling displays and lightweight smart watches like Android Wear, VeloComputer.com offers a complete solution for cycling.
“The hybrid usage of a smartphone with an outdoor reliability of ANT+ devices and convenience of smart watches bridges the gap in applicability of smartphones for cycling,” said founder Vlad Savchenko. “The smartphone can be safely placed in a pocket or under a seat with display off to conserve battery while feeding the data in real-time to ANT+ displays and smart watches.”
The application connects to VeloComputer Magnet-less Smart Sensors mounted on the hub for speed and on the crank for cadence, as well as Bluetooth heart rate monitor. It calculates speed, distance, cadence, heart beat and power, blends this data with the location and transmits the complete dataset via ANT+ Virtual Sensors to ANT+ handlebar mounted display or via Bluetooth to a smart watch. With Android Wear cyclist can control Start, Pause, Stop and Lap function on the phone stowed in a bag, like from a remote control. All data is recorded on a phone and can be instantly shared with apps like VeloCoach or uploaded to a cloud after the workout.
VeloComputer.com also provides an audible feature VeloTones, where cyclist can listen to his performance via Bluetooth earpiece keeping his eyes on the road and not on a display. VeloComputer can also connect to a VeloCoach app designed by coaches for coaches. VeloCoach allows cycling coach to monitor performance of a whole cycling team on a tablet in real-time.
VeloComputer app is available on Google PlayStore. It is compatible with VeloComputer Magnet-less Bluetooth Smart Sensors and any Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitors.
