POC Reimagines What is Possible for Mountain Bike With New Tectal and Coron Helmets

SALT LAKE CITY (Sept. 2, 2015) — Five years after redefining the mountain bike helmet with its award-winning Trabec, POC, a leading manufacturer of skiing and cycling helmets, apparel and accessories, turns the tables for 2016 with a pair of bold new helmets – Tectal and Coron

“We’ve seen a change in riding style since we introduced the Trabec, with riders asking for more from their aggressive trail or enduro helmets,” says Oscar Huss, POC’s head of product development. “We developed the Tectal with these riders in mind, offering more coverage, more ventilation and the unibody shell construction from POC’s ground breaking Octal road helmet.”

The Tectal is a leap forward in the full-coverage helmet category POC created with the Trabec in 2011. The new lid offers increased coverage and significantly improved ventilation compared with its predecessor and features POC’s unique Unibody shell construction, which was first introduced in the brand’s groundbreaking Octal road cycling helmet. This method of wrapping the entire EPS liner with an outer shell adds structural integrity and allows POC to use lower-density foam for the inner liner, leading to significant weight savings.

Also new for 2016, the Coron pushes POC’s full-faced helmet range forward with the incorporation of M-FORGE®, a shell material found in high-end motorsports helmets. M-FORGE is an advanced fiber material that is less brittle than carbon fiber, reducing the amount of fracturing and bounce on the surface of the helmet for increased protection and durability. The Coron also features a multi-impact EPP liner and patent-pending breakaway visor.

“The Coron is really important for us as it reflects our mission and drive to find new ways to support rider safety,” says Huss. “This helmet is truly innovative as it incorporates a new type of shell material that outperforms previously known materials, while offering the added benefits of multi-impact performance, durability and low weight.”

Complimenting POC’s new helmets for 2016 is new mountain bike specific eyewear. The Crave is designed to fit seamlessly with POC helmets and feature durable Zeiss lenses. The stems are designed to hinge and detach in case of falls and for easy lens changes.

POC debuted the Tectal and Coron, as well as its entire 2016 collections of mountain biking and road cycling apparel and equipment at the Eurobike. POC show them for the first time in North America at Interbike, September 16-18 in Las Vegas, NV.
