Thousands of young runners gathered for a women-only, late afternoon 5k through the city.
El Prado Park in Montevideo, Uruguay — the premier green spot in the city — was the ideal setting for the 2,200 young runners who joined the Uruguay chapter of Nike’s She Runs series on Saturday, April 27. The 5k race started at 4:30 pm with runners enjoying face-painting stations and a special VIP area for Nike Run Club participants. For the first time, Nike welcomed runners as young as 15 years old, a sign of how running is becoming more popular in younger communities.María Laura Bazallo won the race, hitting the finish line in 17 minutes and 42 seconds, while Camila De Mello came in second, with a time of 18 minutes flat. Cecilia Cabrera was just behind, finishing in 18 minutes and 7 seconds.
After the race, the runners enjoyed a special show by acclaimed local DJ Micaela Sapin, hosted by TV personality and actress Manuela da Silveira.
