Independent research by Singapore's DSO
National Laboratories concludes Drip Drop is more effective for
exercise-induced dehydration
SAN FRANCISCO, April 8, 2014 -- To stay hydrated and perform at optimal levels,
athletes traditionally turn to water or sugary sports drinks following
strenuous exercise. But in a new, independent study out of Singapore,
Drip Drop, the first oral rehydration solution (ORS) to combine medical
standards of rehydration therapy and excellent taste, actually
outperformed water and a sports drink when treating exercise-induced
dehydration.
The findings offer the first clinical evidence that Drip
Drop increases fluid retention and accelerates rehydration.
"DSO's
study was done as part of our continuous effort to explore strategies
that augment the training and combat performance of our soldiers," said
Jason Kai Wei LEE Ph.D., FACSM, Principal Member of Technical Staff and
Lead Physiologist, Defense Medical & Environmental Research
Institute, DSO National Laboratories. "In this case, DSO was looking for
an enhanced rehydration solution to optimize fluid balance for our
soldiers. The findings indicate that Drip Drop is a more effective
hydration solution when compared to water and the sports drink we
tested."
In
this rehydration study by DSO National Laboratories conducted by Dr.
Lee following a full familiarization trial, nine athletes performed 3
intense cycling time trials and hydrated with a different beverage each
time – tap water, a sports drink and Drip Drop. The findings included:
- Drip Drop's taste is generally comparable to the sugary sports drink, but with half the calories;
- Drip Drop hydrated more effectively: 34% more than plain water and 20% more than the sports drink; and
- Drip Drop contains 2-3 times the electrolytes of most sports drinks.
"The findings from DSO suggest Drip Drop is a force multiplier,
meaning you can get more hydration out of less fluid, which is why it
appeals to elite athletes, Special Forces, and other endurance
enthusiasts," said Dr. Eduardo Dolhun,
Drip Drop's founder and Chief Medical Officer. "Naturally, we are
pleased to see an independent study confirm Drip Drop's efficacy."
Drip
Drop's patented scientific formula conforms to international standards
as an Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), a medically recognized, proven
way to treat dehydration with a precise mixture of salts, sugars,
potassium and other electrolytes. Traditionally, ORS has been unpopular
in the U.S. because of its salty taste, but by breaking the taste
barrier, Drip Drop is making true, medical-grade hydration accessible
for the first time.
The full study will be published by DSO Laboratories in the coming months; a synopsis is available at www.dripdrop.com.
Coming
soon to retail locations across the U.S., Drip Drop lemon and berry
flavors are now available at Amazon, select Walgreens, and DripDrop.com.
