Victoria, BC Canada – On World Ocean’s Day, Sitka will donate their
proceeds to ocean related causes. Their retail locations, online store
and wholesale divisions will come together on June 8th to raise money
for the Pacific Salmon Foundation in Canada and Sustainable Coastlines
in New Zealand. Sitka has flagships stores in Victoria and Vancouver,
British Columbia, as well as in Auckland, New Zealand. Their online
store is at shop.sitka.ca.
It’s been said before, but it’s worth saying again:
This planet should be called Ocean, not Earth.
The big blue seas that cover 70% of the world’s surface are the true
source of life. They feed us and give us good air to breathe; they
regulate our weather, climate and water cycle; they gift us endless fun,
adventure and joy. They’re the ancient and beautiful force that keeps
us here – but their power is matched by their fragility, and unless we
start treating them better, we might not be here that much longer.
With our beginnings as a custom surfboard company, Sitka has always
owed everything to the ocean. We’ve been supporting coastal and ocean
conservation initiatives since we opened in 2002, but this year we’re
stepping up our efforts. To celebrate World Oceans Day
on June 8th, we’ll be giving all the proceeds from our online, in-store
and wholesale sales to ocean-related causes.
But it’s about more than
the money – we hope to inspire our customers, our community and everyone
we do business with to take their own practical actions to protect the
oceans and enjoy them in a respectful and responsible way. With the
world’s oceans facing threats that range from plastic pollution and
overfishing to acidification and climate change, we all need to do our
part to help.
Leading up to World Oceans Day, we’ll be posting a variety of ocean
stories here at sitka.ca. We’ll be profiling the two organizations we’re
donating to – the Pacific Salmon Foundation in Canada and Sustainable Coastlines
in New Zealand – and sharing photo essays from some talented surf
photographers. On social media, you can follow and participate by
tagging #lovetheocean.
Whether it’s sharing this post, tagging a photo or making a purchase on
June 8th, we’d love for you to join in and help us Love the Ocean.
