Stamford, Connecticut – December 1, 2014 — The stage is set for the 18th
annual Bozeman Ice Festival, presented by Black Diamond Equipment,
December 10-14. LOWA, known worldwide for their comprehensive
collection of climbing and mountaineering boots, will be visible front
and center at the World Cup Speed Climbing Championship that is an
integral part of the Festival competition. Those climbers that make it
to the podium will split a $3000 purse contributed by LOWA. Men and
women winners will each take home $750 for first place, $500 for second
and $250 for third.
The Speed Climbing Finals will be held Friday, December 12 from
7:00pm to 9:30pm on the Emerson Lawn. Winners will be crowned at the
award ceremony immediately following the event.
In addition, Festival participants are invited to the LOWA tent to
check out and demo their world-class German-made boots including the
Weisshorn GTX®, Ice Comp IP GTX®, Mountain Expert GTX®
and Latok XT. Looking ahead to warmer weather, visitors to the tent
will also be able to check out LOWA’s line-up of rock climbing shoes
including the new women’s Sparrow. The boot tent team will be led by
LOWA representatives, Gordon Lehmann and Christian McConnell. LOWA
ambassador, Carlos Buhler, will be a special guest and on hand to answer
questions, teach classes and lead climbs.
Carlos knows a thing or two about climbing. With major ascents on
five continents, including the first (and only) ascent of Mt. Everest
via the east Kangshung Face from Tibet, Carlos is considered one of the
most accomplished mountain climbers in the world. His specialty is
high-standard mountaineering characterized by small teams, no oxygen,
minimal gear and equipment on ascents of difficult routes in challenging
conditions. There is no doubt that he will be able to give Ice
Climbing Festival climbers valuable information on LOWA boots and tips
on climbing in general.
The Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival was founded in 1996 and is
dedicated to promoting and protecting the world-class ice climbing of
Hyalite Canyon. The event is a huge draw for athletes and participants
looking for a myriad of clinics, demos, gear and evening entertainment.
Proceeds from the Festival go directly to the Friends of Hyalite, a 501(c)3 organization that supports winter access into Hyalite Canyon for ice climbing.
