SANTA CLARA, CA--(Dec 9, 2014) - Magellan, a leader of innovative GPS devices and content services for vehicles, fitness, outdoor, and mobile navigation, has the perfect solution for gift givers with serious cyclists on their lists this holiday season: a powerful Magellan Cyclo GPS cycling computer. Designed to provide the most routing options and sensor support possible, models include standard Cyclo 315 and Cyclo 315hc (with heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor), and advanced models, featuring Bluetooth® Smart connectivity, Cyclo 505 and Cyclo 505hc (with heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor). They are compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones*.
All Cyclo models come with a vibrant 3" color transflective screen that is easily read in direct sunlight; ruggedness and water resistance to IPX-7 standards; universal out-front mounts; and a straightforward interface with large virtual buttons that are easily used, even with gloved hands.
"Whether the person receiving the Cyclo as a gift does road, mountain, touring, or training rides, it will make time on their bike more enjoyable, and far less complicated," commented Stig Pedersen, Magellan associate vice president of product management. "Loaded with many of Magellan's exclusive features, Cyclo will help cyclists get to their destinations and reach their personal goals quickly and safely."
Common Features The Magellan Cyclo 315 and 505 bicycle navigation GPS units include the following features.
-Preloaded Detailed Road and Open Street Maps (OSM) - up to 35,000 cycle lanes and 5,000 cycle tracks, as well as cycling POIs such as bike shops and restaurants
-Programmable Cycling Profiles - let riders create up to six specific touring, mountain, road, or indoor biking profiles, instructing the unit to avoid dirt or paved roads, or -- specifically for mountain bikers -- display what percent of a given route is unpaved dirt
-Surprise Me™ Routing - by specifying a distance or time, Cyclo will present up to three different routes (closed loop, point to point, or point on a map); difficulty and grade of each route is presented so riders may make an informed choice
-Ant+ Accessory Support - provides over 150 ANT+ speed, cadence, power and heart rate sensors; Cyclo hc models come with ANT+ heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor
-Shimano Di2 Electronic Road Bicycle Shifting Systems Compatibility - reads and records shifting information from compatible Di2 electronic shifting systems that have the Di2 wireless unit, including XTR
-Shake & Share - shares planned routes wirelessly with other Cyclo devices by selecting the feature and shaking the unit back and forth at another Cyclo unit; helps assure all group riders know the way to the desired destination
- Back Track - tracks position from start to finish, allowing riders to always find their way back to where rides began or where they deviated from route
- High-Sensitivity SiRFstarIII GPS - provides GPS accuracy up to within 15 feet
- Rechargeable Lithium Battery - supplies up to 12 hours of battery life
"No matter the rider's experience level, dedication to riding, or location, there is a Magellan Cyclo bicycle navigation GPS unit to fit his or her needs and budget," stated Sam Muscariello, outdoor product marketing director for Magellan. "The line is based on the input of real-world cyclists from around the globe. Without question, it is the most advanced, full featured, and user friendly GPS cycling computer available in the market."
Cyclo 505 Advanced Features
The Cyclo 505 models are the first cycling GPS computers to provide Bluetooth® Smart connectivity. This allows the devices to directly receive text messages and call notification alerts, when paired with an iPhone or Android smartphone*. Likewise, if a rider uses a Bluetooth headset (sold separately), they could answer an incoming call or set up an automatic voicemail response. Cyclo's Bluetooth support also allows riders to control music playlists directly from the device.
Additionally, Cyclo 505 models provide wireless connectivity, so riders can wirelessly sync ride data directly to the Magellancyclo.com website, no matter where they are. Users can configure their Magellan Cyclo website account to automatically save ride data to their Strava, Training Peaks or Endomondo account.
When training/riding indoors, the two Cyclo 505 models allow users to create an indoor cycling profile that disables GPS functionality, but still measures speed, cadence, heart rate, and power. Once paired with an ANT+ capable trainer, the rider can control the grade and the amount of wind and track/ground resistance.
Pricing and Availability
All Cyclo 315 and Cyclo 505 models are available at leading independent bike shops and sporting goods retailers across the U.S, as well as through prominent etailers.
