Toronto, Canada (January 8, 2015) -- Lorpen, a performance sock designer and manufacturer, has donated more than $50,000 worth of merino blend socks to the Coalition for the Homeless, the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women and children. The socks will be distributed to New York City’s homeless community throughout the winter as part of the Coalition’s Grand Central Food Program.

“This generous donation from Lorpen will truly help the most vulnerable of our homeless neighbors this winter,” said Dave Giffen, Executive Director of the Coalition for the Homeless. “Each night, three Coalition for the Homeless vans deliver roughly a thousand healthy meals – as well as coats, hats, gloves and blankets – to those living rough on the streets. Socks are always in demand but, unfortunately, we never have enough to meet the need out there.  Now thanks to Lorpen, we do.”

“We often take socks for granted, but for those who are less fortunate, socks can make huge difference in surviving the cold weather,” said Bruce Barrows, VP sales & marketing at Lorpen. “We hope this donation will provide some comfort to those in need and show our appreciation for organizations like the Coalition for the Homeless for their ongoing efforts to help the homeless.”

Coalition for the Homeless is dedicated to the principle that affordable housing, sufficient food, and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society. Since its inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education, and direct services to ensure that these goals are realized.
