AUSTIN, TEXAS - October 24, 2012
Kammok, an outdoor adventure brand specializing in camping hammocks and
gear for the socially conscious adventurer, announces their new B
Corporation status. B Lab, the non-profit body behind the B Corporation
designation, recognizes companies that use the power of business to
solve economic and social problems.
Kammok creates high quality outdoor gear and apparel for the socially
and environmentally conscious adventurer. Kammok launched in 2011 with
two revolutionary camping products: the ROO™, a single adult camping hammock or "kammok", and the Python Straps™ hammock suspension system.
Kammok's revolutionary camping hammocks elevate the traditional
camping experience, providing adventurers with a durable, lightweight
shelter that makes minimal impact on their surroundings. And through the
company's corporate giving model, every Kammok product sold helps
support environmental and social issues around the world.
Through a partnership with Malaria No More,
Kammok donates a treated mosquito net or health education to a family
in Africa and also donates 1% of revenue to CTC International and their
sustainable development projects in Maai Mahiu, Kenya through a
partnership with 1% For The Planet.
Since its inception, Kammok has seen tremendous success, experienced
exponential growth and has continued to take evolutionary steps to
demonstrate their mission. Kammok is committed to leading in
social/environmental impact and B-Corp offers a great framework to
measure improvement.
“Being certified as a B-Corp wasn’t an easy undertaking, but well
worth it!" said Greg Mcevilly, CEO of Kammok. "We're excited to help
draw a line drawn in the dirt, joining other businesses that have made
the commitment to do away with business as usual. This recognition
reinforces our commitment to a stakeholder-centric business model and
our mission of engaging people in the adventure of changing lives."
Certified B Corporations operate the same as traditional businesses
but meet higher standards of corporate purpose, accountability, and
transparency. In order to be recognized as a Certified B Corporation,
Kammok had to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental
performance and legally expand its corporate responsibilities to include
consideration of stakeholder interests. With this recognition, Kammok
joins a growing list of for-profit businesses including Patagonia, Warby
Parker, Klean Kanteen and Etsy in their commitment to social and
economic performance, transparency and accountability.
