Retail news : US retailer Gander Mountain Announces Major Texas Expansion

Gander Mountain will add four new Texas stores in the coming months, expanding the nation’s largest network of outdoor specialty stores to Lewisville, Mesquite, Round Rock and San Antonio. All four stores are scheduled to open in fall 2013. The expansion will also bring the first dedicated Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center to Texas, at the Mesquite location.

“Texans love the outdoors, and have passed down great traditions like hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping for generations,” said David Pratt, Gander Mountain’s president and CEO. “We are happy to be able to add to the 11 stores we already have in Texas, and give more people in more regions of the state opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices.”

Details on the new stores are:

-  Lewisville will see a new Gander Mountain store in a 45,000-square-foot space at 723 Hebron Parkway, just off I-35E at Exit 448A, in the Lakepointe Towne Crossing Shopping Center.

-  Mesquite will be home to the first Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center in Texas, located in a 31,000-square-foot space at 3775 Childress Avenue, just off the LBJ Freeway at Exit 7A.

-  Round Rock will see a new Gander Mountain store in a 49,000-square-foot space at 3021 S. I-35, in the Round Rock Crossing Shopping Center.

-  San Antonio will see a new Gander Mountain store in a 49,000-square-foot space at 8203 State Highway 151, just off I-410 at Exit 9A, in the Westover Marketplace Shopping Center.

Each Gander Mountain store will feature one of the largest selections of new and used firearms in Texas, together with the best selection of gear and accessories for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery. The stores will offer an extensive selection of men’s and women’s active performance outdoor and casual apparel featuring exciting brands like The North Face, Columbia, Under Armour, GSX, Mountain Hardwear, Carhartt, Guide Series, Marmot and Kühl, and a wide variety of men’s and women’s active footwear featuring brands like Asics, Merrell, Rocky, Reebok, Keen, Irish Setter, Teva, New Balance, Brooks, Patagonia, Timberland, LaCrosse, Itasca, Saucony and Salomon.

The Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center in Mesquite is a new specialty retail store focused on fulfilling the needs of firearms enthusiasts from beginners to experts, featuring thousands of new and used firearms of all kinds, and the industry’s best selection of firearms accessories, specialty apparel, ammunition and security for those interested in hunting, self-defense, recreation, competition and training.

Gander Mountain officials expect as many as 350 jobs to be created in Texas as a result of the expansion. Currently there are Gander Mountain stores in Amarillo, Beaumont, College Station, Corsicana, Houston, Lubbock, Sherman, Spring, Sugar Land, Texarkana and Tyler. The Spring location is home to the first Gander Mountain Academy in Texas where customers can experience the ultimate in firearms training.

The four new Texas stores are the most recent locations announced in a sizeable expansion. In the past year, new Gander Mountain stores have opened in Valdosta, GA, Morrisville, NC, Lafayette, IN, Opelika, AL, Florence, AL, Winston-Salem, NC, Gastonia, NC, Monroe, NC, Rogers, MN, and Tuscaloosa, AL, with more new stores to be announced soon.

There are currently 123 conveniently located Gander Mountain outdoor lifestyle stores in 24 states.
