Winter 2014 Boa Closure System-Powered Products Win 13 Industry and Media Awards

Denver, Colo.—Boa Technology Inc., maker of the patented, award-winning Boa Closure System, garnered numerous awards from industry peers and the media at the recent Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and ISPO Munich, Europe’s largest tradeshow for the active lifestyle market.

“Boa began in 2001 as a closure solution for snowboard boots and has since expanded into a wide range of product categories with over 140 brand partners worldwide,” says Boa Technology President and CEO Mark Soderberg. “These awards represent an impressive cross section of the many new products employing the Boa Closure System, from jackets to helmets, hiking boots to snowshoes.”

At the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 22-25, the Scarpa F1 Evo light weight alpine touring (AT) boot was named “Gear of the Show” by Outside magazine, GearJunkie.com, GearPatrol.com and The Gear Institute.

The Scarpa F1 Evo is the first AT ski boot with a rigid tongue to use the Boa Closure System on the boot’s lower shell. Long-time Boa brand partner K2, which was among the first to use the Boa Closure System on its snowboard boots, received “Best in Show” awards from GearJunkie.com and

The Gear Institute for the K2 Route, the lightest snow sport helmet on the market, which uses the micro-adjustable Boa Closure System to achieve a customized fit.

At ISPO Munich 2014, which took place January 26-29, several new and existing Boa partner brands won coveted ISPO awards in a range of product categories, from apparel to footwear to gear. ISPO Awards were awarded to the Descente Mizusawa Down Jacket and Descente Platinum ski jacket, both of which have Boa-powered adjustable hoods for a more conforming fit.

New Boa partner Tubbs won an ISPO Gold Award for its innovative Flex VRT Snowshoes that employ the powerful Boa Closure System to quickly and easily secure the harness around the foot. Also receiving ISPO Awards were the Topo Athletic Sante, a running and training shoe with Boa instead of laces, the Boa-powered Thuasne Ankle Brace and K2 Route helmet.

Norwegian footwear company Viking received the Scandinavian Outdoor Award from the Scandinavian Outdoor Group for the Constrictor II Boa, a sturdy, insulated high-top boot with the Boa Closure System.
