MyAssetTag.com, RIOC, and Bike New York Partner to Promote Biking on the Island
NEW YORK, May 7, 2014 -- On May 17,
bike season shifts into high gear as locals dust off their bikes for
Bike New York's Spring Kickoff Party on Roosevelt Island. The sponsors
include MyAssetTag.com, Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), and Bike New York. The event takes place from 11am-4pm on the island's Capobianco Field.
MyAssetTag.com will provide a free bicycle registration service for residents of Roosevelt Island.
The BikeGuard registry system found success on college campuses, but
this is the system's pilot run supplying tags for an entire urban
community free of charge.
Representatives
from MyAssetTag.com will place a small QR sticker on residents'
bicycles. Residents enter bike return contact information into the
system in case of bike theft or loss. When the island's Public Safety
Department finds a bicycle, a quick sticker scan can help reunite bike
and owner with ease.
"There's no guaranteed solution to bike theft in New York City, but registering your bike with BikeGuard can provide some peace of mind," said Katelyn Gray, Nonprofit Manager for MyAssetTag.com. "New Yorkers have enough to do without worrying about stolen bikes."
The
Bike New York Spring Kickoff Party includes a professional
face-painter, a sidewalk chalk area for kids, ice cream from Main Street
Sweets, food from Fauzia's Heavenly Delights food truck, and a bike
ride around Roosevelt Island. Attendees also have a chance to win Bike
New York swag, gift certificates to Roosevelt Island restaurants, and
can visit a bike decorating station and a free pop-up bike repair shop.
"Bike
New York strives to meet the demand for quality bike education
throughout the city, as well as encourage bicycling to serve as a fun,
healthy and useful part of one's daily life," said Bike New York's CEO
and President, Ken Podziba.
"The island is an ideal setting for bicycling, and as long as the
residents continue welcoming us with open arms, Bike New York will
continue to invest in new and interesting bike education programs."
In addition to its main events, Bike New York will raffle off brand new bicycles to a few lucky Roosevelt Island residents. RIOC's Public Safety Department officers maintain a safe and fun environment for participants and vendors.
"One
of RIOC's top priorities is ensuring the safety of our residents. We
are pleased to partner with Bike New York as they bring their fantastic
bicycle education programming to Roosevelt Island. We're also excited
that residents can now register their bikes right here in the community
through MyAssetTag.com's BikeGuard program," said Charlene Indelicato,
President and CEO of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation.
"I
can't think of a better way to kick off the season than by bringing more
resources for cyclists to Roosevelt Island."
The MyAssetTag.com team will conduct research at the event about bicycle, sneaker, and athletic wear preference of Roosevelt Island residents.
For more information on the event, please email Carrie Winans, carrie@smartsign.com. In the case of inclement weather, the Bike New York Spring Kickoff Party will take place on Sunday, May 18th from 11am-4pm.
