Cortez, CO – June 10, 2014 – Osprey Packs, Inc.,
a leader in creating top- quality, high-performance, innovative packs
to comfortably and efficiently carry gear, announced that the
company’s distribution operations will relocate to Utah’s Wasatch Front
next year.
While Osprey company headquarters, which includes sales,
customer service, marketing, finance, quality assurance, returns and
other core functions, will remain in Cortez, Colorado, warehousing and
shipping will relocate to Utah by mid – 2015.
This move positions Osprey’s U.S. distribution center near the
national rail network, which will allow the company to provide better
service to the brand’s retailer base and significantly reduce the
company’s carbon footprint. The company currently receives and
distributes by truck.
This move also addresses the space constraints Osprey has faced in
recent years requiring the company to patch together seven smaller
facilities in Cortez. By contrast, the new structure streamlines the
organization with one facility in Colorado and another single
distribution center in Utah. The plan also includes the expansion of
Osprey’s Colorado headquarters to create an improved work environment
and allow for continued growth of the Cortez Team Member base.
“The decision to relocate our distribution function to a
transportation hub such as the Wasatch Front is an exciting and
necessary move for Osprey,” said Tom Barney, CEO of Osprey Packs. “Our
dealers and our company will benefit from a single-roof DC surrounded by
significant logistics services. Osprey is happy to retain and grow our
headquarters in Colorado while welcoming old and new Team Members to
Utah, a favorite neighboring state with strong recreational values and
the host of the Outdoor Retailer trade show.”
The new distribution center is set to open with up to 20 Team
Members, some of whom will be relocating from Colorado and some of whom
will be new hires in Utah. All Osprey Team Members whose jobs are
impacted by the move to Utah will receive financial support, the option
of a relocation incentive package or new roles in the expanding Colorado
headquarters.
