PEAR Sports Teams up with Godfather of Freestyle Kayaking, Eric Jackson

Jackson’s program will aim to teach kayakers how to prevent injuries and paddle stronger and longer

Irvine, CA, - PEAR Sports (www.pearsports.com), designer of heart rate based interactive coaching technologies, announced today the creation of Eric Jackson training program. Intended specifically to help kayakers and rowers, of all types increase their condition and lower injuries, the program will target the core building blocks to success, according to elite athlete and kayaking instructor, Eric Jackson. Jackson's knowledge, experience and workouts are also designed to help anyone improve strength in the shoulders, back, chest and core areas.

Icon and godfather of freestyle kayaking, Jackson has been on the forefront of the kayaking culture since the early 1980’s. Aside from accomplishing hundreds of wins that include national and world championships, he has played a pivotal role in inventing new freestyle moves. In 2009, he was inducted in the Whitewater Hall of Fame.

Jackson’s knowledge stems from over 25 years of experience as an athlete. He has always been known for his incredible physical condition on and off the water and for his ability to avoid injuries throughout his career.

This is mostly due to a proper training program that incorporates all ingredients to stay fit. In fact, he has kept detailed training logs that include the use of heart rate monitors. From as far back as 1984, Jackson has recorded his heart rate on graph paper. To team up with PEAR Sports and utilize their bio feedback technology was always bound to be a natural progression.

According to Christian Schauf, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of PEAR, “Eric’s training programs bring a fresh approach to all athletes who want to be their best before they hit the water .

The goal is get into proper shape and maintain a top fitness level in order to avoid injuries that seem to be the commonality of not being prepared physically for the sport.” PEAR’s bio feedback technology actually allows these athletes to track and monitor their results in order to progress quicker.

In addition to creating many of the modern day freestyle moves and combos, Jackson is also one of the most popular and notable kayaking instructors. He has written two books, "Kayaking with Eric Jackson: Strokes and Concepts" and “Kayaking with Eric Jackson: Playboating" which have been in circulation for over 15 years. Further to that, he has published 11 instructional DVDs which have become the staple kayak training series on a global scale.

“Thanks to our partnership with PEAR Sports, athletes will now be able to train effectively, regardless of the location,” Jackson said. “Not only will paddlers have a strategic roadmap for fitness—they will also be able to track and monitor their results.” In addition, Jackson mentions, “I believe that my five series workout plan targets the core building blocks to success: fat loss and muscle toning, the tightening of abs and the increase of V02 max, water resistance, running condition and cardio.  I look forward to sharing my personal success with everyone.”

Aside from being a pioneer for the sport, top level athlete and instructor, Eric also founded Jackson Kayak in 2004 which quickly became the bestselling whitewater kayak brand by 2006 and remains in that position today. The company is also the leader in kayak fishing boats and makes expedition/touring kayaks, sit-on-top recreational kayaks and more.
