PFOA: Norwegian legislation, transition period update

Below is the latest information provided by the European Outdoor Group regarding recent Norwegian legislation and ban of PFOA:

"The Norwegian authorities have decided to ban the import and sales of textiles containing more than 1 μg/m2 of PFOA from June 1, 2014.

The transitional arrangement for PFOA was adopted on May 27, 2014, as it was proposed by the Environmental Directorate.

The news release will be posted on the website of the Norwegian Environmental Directorate website shortly.

The transitional arrangement, as per previous recommendations, is as follows (translated version, official version may differ in exact wording):

'The Environment Directorate recommends the Climate and Environment Ministry to change the rules so that products, which are documented to have been manufactured before June 1, 2014, may be imported and sold until 1 January 2018.'

Products that are already in store and in stock, can therefore continue to be sold, while at the same time the new stringent legislation for PFOA-free products is applicable for all new products, and therefore still ensures that health and safety is being safeguarded."
