NEW YORK, NY (June 12, 2014) – VICE, the world’s leading youth media
company and digital content studio, today announces the launch of VICE
Sports: a new online channel that will cover some of the biggest and
most compelling names in sports, from gameday rituals to off-day antics,
and beyond. The channel launches with five video franchises featuring
stars such as C.J. Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and Andrew Wiggins.
The site, which launches with daily editorial content, this week
features the first interviews with five former swimmers associated with
the sexual abuse scandal in U.S.A swimming that led to CEO Chuck
Wielgus’ withdrawal from this year’s International Swimming Hall of Fame
induction class.
VICE Sports won’t be confined to the stats and scores, but will take
viewers and readers behind the scenes, profiling some of the most
intriguing personalities in sports, the rabid fans cheering for them and
cultural movements surrounding the games.
VICE Sports also partners with Mandalay Sports Media, one of the most
prolific producers of sports related content to gain access to marquee
athletes.
All VICE Sports content will live at sports.vice.com,
a fully responsive platform created for optimal video and content
viewing as well as social media sharing. The dedicated VICE
SportsYouTube channel will help to ensure the channel’s content reaches
the widest possible audience.
SHOW DESCRIPTIONS:
OFF DAY: Six days a week, athletes are playing, practicing, or
training. Explore the entertaining and bizarre ways our favorite
athletes use their limited free time, and get a unique look at who these
modern-day gladiators really are when they’re not under the glare of
the stadium's lights.
FANFARE: Players come and go, teams drop in and out of
contention, but the rabid devotion of a superfan never wanes. We scour
the globe to meet the most devoted of the bunch.
VICE SPORTS MEETS: Tired of the run-of-the-mill and cliché
riddled interviews that dominate sports media? VICE Sports Meets is the
antidote, digging into the lives of your favorite stars and seeing what
really makes them tick.
ATHLETES AFTER THE FACT: Follow athletes as they pursue life
after the league. In spending time with them in their new jobs, we often
learn much more about their old ones.
THE CUSP: There's nothing as fascinating as the period of an
athlete’s career when they’re on the verge of breaking through to the
big time. With one foot in a world they’ve always known, and one foot
into an unimaginable world of stardom, lives get complicated and
powerful stories emerge.
