Local and National Recognition honor Liberty's commitment to zero-waste manufacturing and support for disabled citizens
WASHINGTON, D.C. and UNION GAP, Wash. - October 9, 2013 -
Liberty Bottleworks was honored with a pair of awards in the last month, receiving a national "Most Valuable Pollution Prevention" (MVP2) award in a nod to the company's green manufacturing and an "Outstanding Employer for People with Disabilities" award in the state of Washington.
In September, Liberty's Founder, President and CEO Tim Andis traveled to Washington D.C. along with other honorees from academia, industry, nonprofits and individual projects to collect an MVP2 award. The awards are presented by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, a national forum dedicated to reducing waste. Liberty had been nominated for the award earlier this year after receiving an Environmental Excellence Award from the Association of Washington Businesses.
"To be recognized first in the ultra-eco-conscious state of Washington and then on a national scale speaks volumes about what we're accomplishing here with green manufacturing," said Liberty Co-Founder and COO Ryan Clark. "By making products here and controlling the process from start to finish we can take advantage of the latest technology and show other businesses and consumers what can be done in the U.S."
All of Liberty's bottles are made from American-sourced, 100 percent recycled aluminum and manufactured in the company's zero-waste factory using American-made equipment in Union Gap, Wash. With more than a million bottles made since the company's launch in 2010, Liberty has used approximately 500,000 lbs. of recycled aluminum to create their products.
"These organizations have clearly demonstrated that pollution prevention is beneficial to both the environment and the economy," said Jeffrey Burke, Executive Director of NPPR. "They are being recognized for their leadership and commitment to promoting a sustainable future."
Then just days ago, in celebration of National Disabilities Employment Month in October, Liberty was honored in Washington State by the Community Employment Alliance and Association of Washington Business Institute as an "Outstanding Employer for People with Disabilities". Aaron Collier, Liberty Bottleworks' Operation Manager, and Perry Belcher, one of the company's employees with a disability, accepted the statewide award in Bremerton.
In addition to hiring disabled employees when possible, Liberty is coordinating with Yakima-based Entrust to create a fundraiser bottle to support the organization's mission to help disabled citizens in their community achieve their goals. The two organizations recently created a local broadcast commercial highlighting the relationship and the fundraiser bottles.
