SANTA BARBARA, CA (FEBRUARY 26, 2014) – To kick off their 50 year anniversary and Legend Series celebration, SeaVees has partnered with renowned surfboard shaper, Reynolds “Renny” Yater to auction off a custom-made Yater Spoon surfboard on eBay from March 16-26 with all proceeds benefiting colon cancer research.
To honor the dual 50th anniversaries and Colon Cancer Awareness
Month, Yater has shaped a custom Spoon for SeaVees that will be
available on auction with all proceeds from the auction, as well as 10%
from sales of the 08/63 Hermosa Plimsoll Standards, will be donated to
Colon Cancer research at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.
“Renny Yater epitomizes Authentic California,” said Steven Tiller,
CEO and Chief Designer of SeaVees. “It was an honor to work with such a
legend.”
In the summer of 1964, the same year SeaVees was originally founded,
Yater honed his talent to carve out the original Yater Spoon. The Spoon
was the thinnest, lightest and most maneuverable longboard of its time.
The shape remains the board of choice among many longboarders today,
solidifying Yater’s status as a surf icon.
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the
United States, but as many as 80% of these deaths could be prevented
through regular screening in those age 50 or older. To help raise
awareness about colon cancer and screening for the disease, the Cancer
Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic has worked since 2000 to
raise widespread awareness of colon cancer prevention and the importance
of early detection.
Throughout 2014, SeaVees is teaming up with select legends (and
legends-in-the-making) to create limited edition items that embody the
spirit of SeaVees and the authentic era of 1960s California. Sold
exclusively on Seavees.com, all proceeds go to the charity of the
collaborator’s choice.
