Rohnert Park (CA): Entering its fourth season, Marmot,
together with Grassroots Outdoor Alliance (Grassroots), a buying group
of 49 independent specialty retailers with over 100 store fronts across
the United States, is hoping to raise $10,000 for the Conservation
Alliance, again, through a joint retail promotion beginning May 23.
The
partnership, which first began in 2011, has already raised more than
$25,000 for the Conservation Alliance, one of the most important
non-profit organizations in the outdoor conservation space. Promoted
through Grassroots retailers, throughout the end of May and the month of
June, $10 from the sale of any Marmot products—$99.00 or more—will be
donated to the Conservation Alliance.
Roanne Miller, Grassroots President explains, “This is a unique and
important partnership that supports the independent, outdoor specialty
retailer, which ties directly back to local businesses and stimulates
those regional economies.”
Miller adds, “Working with The Conservation Alliance and Marmot
allows us to broaden our reach to help bigger national projects that we
really want to support. Marmot’s generosity to help coordinate and drive
this promotion shows their commitment to protect wild places and
recreational values.”
“We’ve enjoyed working with Grassroots on this promotion every
season,” explains Tom Fritz, Marmot’s Vice President of Marketing. “This
spring marks our fourth collaboration with Grassroots and together
we’ve raised more than $25,000 for the Conservation Alliance. It’s one
of most successful and impactful promotions we’ve done to benefit a
non-profit organization.”
Participating Grassroots stores this year are: Alpine Shop, Ltd.,
Appalachian Outfitters, Appalachian Ski & Outdoors, Backcountry
Essentials, Backcountry North, Bill Jackson’s, The Base Camp, Casual
Adventures, Champaign Surplus, Half Moon Outfitters, Massey’s

About the Conservation Alliance:
The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses
whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental
organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor
enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in
protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas.
Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all
aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers,
publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse
group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural
environment.
Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than
$8.3 million to grassroots environmental groups. Alliance funding has
helped save over 49.5 million acres of wildlands; 27 dams have either
been stopped or removed; and the group helped preserve access to more
than 17,000 miles of waterways and several climbing areas.
