(Aspen, Colo. – May 14, 2014) POC, a leading manufacturer of skiing
and cycling helmets, eyewear, body armor and accessories is debuting a
new aerodynamic road cycling helmet with the Garmin-Sharp Pro Cycling Team at two of the summer’s first and most significant stage races, the Giro d’Italia and the Tour of California.
The Cerebel helmet was developed in close collaboration with team Garmin-Sharp, Volvo Car Group
and POC’s own WATTS Lab, a highly specialized department whose
objective is to optimize performance and aerodynamics. Computational
Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and extensive wind tunnel testing with
Garmin-Sharp and Volvo Car Group have given POC insight on how to
improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Commenting on the new helmet, Stefan Ytterborn, POC CEO and founder says:
“Introducing
the Cerebel helmet is about completing our range of road helmets, each
developed for a specific purpose. All our four helmets; Octal, Octal
Aero, Cerebel and Tempor, are extremely fast in their category, so it is
a matter of priorities, conditions, the parcours and personal riding
style. What it all comes down to is saving watts and seconds.”
Rohan
Dennis of Team Garmin-Sharp wore the Cerebel in his second place
performance at the Stage 2 Foslom Individual Time Trial (ITT) at the
Tour of California and now sits second overall in the general
classification. Members of Team Garmin Sharp racing in the Giro d’Italia
also wore the Cerebel during the opening team time trail.
Cerebel will be presented at trade shows this fall and will be available to consumers as part of POC’s AVIP product line in the spring of 2015.
