Business statistics Eurostat : July 2012 compared to June 2012 sales volume of retail trade down by 0.2% in the euro area Stable in EU27.

In July 2012 compared with June 2012, the sales volume of trade Detail1 decreased by 0.2% in the euro area2 (EA17) and remained stable in the EU27. In June3 the retail trade rose by 0.1% and 0.2%.
20,124 in July compared to July 2011, the retail sales index decreased by 1.7% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU27.
These first estimates are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
 

Monthly variationsIn July 2012 compared to June 2012, the area of ​​"Food, drinks and tobacco" fell by 0.9% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU27. The non food sector increased by 0.9% and 0.7%.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade rose in twelve Member States, fell in seven and remained stable in Denmark and Finland. The largest decreases were observed in Spain (-1.9%), Malta and Austria (-1.7%) and in Germany and Slovenia (-0.9%). The highest increases were registered in Latvia (+2.7%), Ireland (+1.7%) and Poland (+1.6%).
 

Annual variationsIn July 2012 compared to July 2011, the area of ​​"Food, drinks and tobacco" fell by 1.7% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU27. The non food sector decreased by 1.0% in the euro area, while it increased by 1.2% in the EU27.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade rose in twelve Member States and fell in nine. The largest decreases were observed in Portugal (-7.6%), Spain (-7.3%) and Malta (-4.2%), and the highest increases in Latvia (+10.3 %), Estonia (+6.5%) and Lithuania (5.7%).

Based on data adjusted for working days and seasonal variations.As announced in the press release 19/2012 of 3 February 2012, the seasonal adjustment methodology has been revised to improve consistency between national and European aggregates. Series seasonally adjusted euro area and EU series are calculated by aggregating the national data seasonally adjusted. Eurostat performs the seasonal adjustment of data for countries that do not. 3. Data of previous months have been revised compared to those issued in News Release 117/2012 of 3 August 2012. The monthly growth rate for June 2012 was unchanged at +0.1% in the EA17 and has been revised-0, 3% to 0.2% in the EU27. The annual growth rates have been revised from -1.2% to -0.9% in the EA17 and from -0.7% to +0.2% in the EU27.
