(June 13, 2013): On Friday June 21st the world will celebrate Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) (www.goskateboardingday.org) and West 49, Canada’s largest actions sports retailer, will be out in full force at local skateparks across Canada. Skateboarders from Newfoundland to British Columbia are expected to take part this year and enjoy the day, keeping true to the GSD mission “Have Fun – Go Skateboarding.”
Skateboarders across the country (and the world) will celebrate the tenth annual “Go Skateboarding Day,” the official national holiday for the sport. Established by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), which organizers say provides passionate skateboarders and those inspired by the activity an opportunity to “drop everything and get on a skateboard,” June 21st the first day of summer, which is also the longest day of the year (to maximize the fun), was elected an official holiday of skateboarding the singular goal being to get out on a skateboard and ride.
West 49 stores are set to celebrate with riders of all ages and skill at local skateparks in their neighborhoods. And they have big plans to celebrate this year. They will be hosting contests & demos, games of S.K.A.T.E., BBQ’s, fundraisers for local charities and of course there will be prizes and product tosses throughout the day. West 49 will be celebrating the pure exhilaration, creativity and spirit of one of the most influential activities in the world – skateboarding in the 55+ local skateparks across Canada.
