New products : La Sportiva Debuts 15 New Footwear Styles for Spring 2014

Boulder, Colorado, Jul 22, 2013 -
For Spring 2014, La Sportiva, makers of the world’s finest mountain products for over 80 years, unveils 15 new footwear styles. The line includes new versions of two top mountain boots, machine washable rock climbing shoes, several new Mountain Running® shoes, two technical, casually-styled approach shoes, and new hiking boots. These new styles represent significant innovation across several footwear categories.

“We’re pushing the envelope on what’s possible with a variety of footwear styles,” says Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “The award winning Trango Cube GTX represents 3 years of R&D while the Bushido trail runner utilizes entirely new stabilization technology and our new rock climbing shoes are machine washable to eliminate the stink that pervades climbing shoes. We’re debuting new technologies that will change the market forever.”

The new Trango Cube GTX represents a new level of materials innovation in La Sportiva’s flagship Mountain category. In development for three years and utilizing two patented manufacturing processes, the boot’s upper is a proprietary synthetic fabric matrix, called QB3, with a Gore-Tex® Performance Comfort lining. The lacing system is direct inject TPU that weighs one third less than a traditional riveted lacing system, while maintaining a near-seamless upper for durability and waterproof integrity. The new, exclusive "One" sole by Vibram® completes the boot at just 24 ounces. Additionally, the Nepal Cube GTX boot utilizes the La Sportiva’s Carbon Tech honeycomb insulation to reduce the boot’s weight by over one-half pound per pair, while also adding warmth due to the heat trapping effect of the honeycomb insulation.

The Bushido is the newest shoe in La Sportiva’s successful Mountain Running® footwear line. Designed for top performance on technical terrain, the shoe utilizes the new STB stabilization technology, which is a TPU frame on the side of the upper that extends and wraps over the midsole to stabilize fit. Combined with the dual density FriXion® XT sole, Impact Brake System™and overwrapped lugs, this 9.8 ounce, 6mm drop shoe has exceptional cornering ability and is targeted at the sweet spot of the trail running market. Additionally, the Savage GTX is a waterproof trail runner ideal for adverse weather conditions and multi-sport use such as light backpacking. It weighs 13 ounces and has a 12mm drop.

In the climbing category, La Sportiva utilizes 3-layer WashTex uppers in three shoes that are machine washable to keep them clean and hygienic. The perforated microfiber outer layer provides structure and flexibility to the shoes, while the highly breathable internal fabric wicks away sweat during extended use. The HydroGym, OxyGym, and NitroGym are the first washable climbing shoes that promote product longevity and hygiene. In addition, La Sportiva’s new women’s Solution shoe features a women’s specific last that will provide female climbers with access to the best-selling technical bouldering shoe.

In the access category, La Sportiva introduces the Scratch and Mix, two technical approach shoes with

casual styling. The Scratch features a canvas and microfiber upper with a FriXion® XT dual compound sole that provides stickiness, long lasting wear abrasion resistance and shock absorption. The Mix is a leather and synthetic shoe designed to be comfortable for many hours of wear. The FriXion® XF sole is extremely sticky and the asymmetric to-the toe lacing system provides customized fitting.

In hiking, La Sportiva’s new Colbricon GTX, Cornon GTX and Cauriol GTX are all European production hiking boots that retail for $200, $190 and $180 respectively. Additionally, La Sportiva’s Thunder III GTX is a mid-weight waterproof boot with a molded rubber heel stabilizer for ankle support and a roomy toe box for wider fit.
