Crowdfunding : Wellen Surf launches new women's line, Wellen Women

June 3, 2014, Los Angeles, CA: Wellen Women have launched a 30-day Kickstarter Campaign intended to build awareness and create brand advocacy among early adopters. After seven years in the men's market, the Los Angeles label, Wellen, will work with local producers and their internal design team to bring the Wellen Lifestyle to women everywhere.

"For seven years we've been creating a lifestyle apparel brand centered around the idea of the Gentleman Surfer," said CEO and founder Matt Jung. "but throughout those seven years, we’ve also made it our goal to listen to our customers and retailers. That’s why we’re excited to announce that the Wellen vision is extending to the women’s market.”

Wellen has built a loyal following of retailers and consumers alike in its tenure and will now work with them directly to curate and assort Wellen Women. The new clothing line will launch on Kickstarter with three essential pieces: a Maxi Skirt, Pima Pocket Tee, and French Terry Striped Sweater. The timeless pieces take inspiration from a life lived near the sea.

"We've designed our first three items to be wardrobe staples—something that women will consider their favorites almost immediately. Instant classics," said designer Nicole Santo when asked why the brand chose to launch with three items. "Wellen Women is produced locally in Los Angeles with comfort and quality in mind. We're designing pieces women will covet—pieces they've specifically asked us to make."

Upon the closing of their 30-day fundraising window on Kickstarter, Wellen Women will immediately go into production in Los Angeles and deliver their backers and exclusive retailers with the new product. "Having been in the wholesale model with Wellen since day one, we decided to launch Wellen Women in a unique way and sell consumer direct and through exclusive retail opportunities," said Jung.

Wellen has focused its lifestyle around the positioning Come Play and A Life Well Spent; a brand directive that's both inviting and aspirational, meant to encourage those who want to enjoy the seaside lifestyle in a classic and fun way.

"We're giving our friends, retailers, and customers what they've been asking for since day one," said Jung on why now’s the time to launch Women's.
