LOS ANGELES – To snowboard is to injure one’s tailbone. Whether it’s a bruise or a fracture, nearly everyone who rides has whimpered after catching an edge on hard pack and crawled away in pain. Ass Armor™ takes the hit for you with a new lightweight, low profile compression short featuring D3O® impact-absorbing technology that performs 67% better than any alternative and is 40% thinner than traditional foam-based materials.
Ass Armor is the brainchild of Casey Scherr who bruised her tailbone after a day of riding in Aspen. After purchasing every imaginable tailbone protection on the market, she quickly learned that none of the options were ideal, being too bulky, uncomfortable, ill fitting or simply ineffective. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Scherr partnered with U.K. based company D3O, the industry experts in impact-absorption. By strategically integrating D3O technology into Ass Armor shorts, she was able to create a product that delivers significantly better protection, is comfortable for hours and doesn’t alter one’s figure in a pair of snowboarding pants.
“Hardcore tailbone protection like Ass Armor should be a staple in everyone’s snowboarding kit, whether they’re just learning to ride, or they are more advanced riders who want to go big on the mountain or in the park,” Scherr said. “Ass Armor removes the anxiety of having hard falls on one’s backside and makes riding, and post-ride, that much more enjoyable.”
Ass Armor is a unisex dry-fit stretch short. Constructed with minimal seaming to avoid any extra tightness or chafing, it has a separate elastic waistband for snug comfort. The cool-handed fabrication is designed to wick away moisture and maintain a breathable feeling under layers of gear.
The bespoke D3O smart impact protection is 6mm of a pre-curved composite material, D3O® XT, comprised of polymers and dilatant fluid. It is temperature stable and offers high performance impact protection. While the additional thin layer of comfort padding further eases shock at the coccyx, the flexible tough shell is puncture resistant.
Ass Armor protection is available for $89.99 through assarmor.com and specialty sporting goods retailers beginning September 2014.
