A brand-new idea is giving users the chance to "surf" while in the city, using a high-tech and lightweight skate/surf board, called DESKA Board.
BUDAPEST, Hungary, Oct. 21, 2014 -- A brand-new idea is giving users the chance to "surf" while in the city, using a high-tech and lightweight skate/surf board by Hungarian designer Csaba Tolgyesy.
The DESKA Board CitySurf uses clever design features including 200-mm wheels, a hand-activated rear disc brake system, a unique foot retention system and even an input for a windsurf sail (optimal), to make you feel as though you were surfing right through the busy city streets. DESKA Board won the "People's Choice" award on a HP and Intel sponsored LaunchBox's design contest.
Tolgyesy is a keen windsurfer and snowboarder, and has spent several years working on a design that would allow riders like him to merge both worlds. The DESKA Board land based surf-like solution takes various elements of each board, and marries them to create a revolutionary design that gives you the best of both worlds.
Currently raising funds for the project on Indiegogo, Tolgyesy says the campaign has been a huge success so far. "We've been really overwhelmed by the support we've received up til now. We can't wait to start producing the boards in larger numbers and see them being used in cities around the world, but we really need more support to get there."
The Indiegogo campaign offers funders pledging $579 the opportunity to own the first DESKA Boards as soon as production begins. Smaller donations will receive rewards of official DESKA merchandise, and also DESKA Boards just from $390.
DESKA Board is made from Kevlar, wood, stainless steel, carbon fibre and fibreglass, with a removable, adjustable footbelt strap running down the middle. The rider has a low centre of gravity thanks to the dropped foot platform. There's also a hand-activated rear brake, which can be removed.
