For the first time ever the GoPro Mountain Games Outdoor Reels free film series will officially be shown in its natural habitat: the great outdoors. In addition, attendees on Thursday, June 4 will enjoy free chips and guacamole courtesy of Chipotle. The GoPro Outdoor Reels Film Series currently is scheduled to take place Thursday through Saturday night near the Bouldering Wall in Mountain Plaza located at the base of Vail Mountain. The series includes GoPro’s Original Productions: “Valley Uprising,” “Can I Surf That,” “The SUP Movie,” and “Cerro Torre.”
“Valley Uprising” has been called the greatest untold story of American counterculture. This documentary explores the riveting, unforgettable tale of the Yosemite Valley rock climbers. Narrated by Peter Sarsgaard, “Valley Uprising” features digitally-animated archival photography, incredible climbing footage, and interviews with the rebels that carried the torch for the climbing revolution. “Valley Uprising” will be shown Thursday, June 4 at 8 p.m. (MST).
Get an up close look at the women of the river surfing community in “Can I Surf That.” A project two years in the making, this documentary follows the journey of four waterwomen with an insatiable appetite for adventure and whitewater. “Can I Surf That” will be shown Friday, June 5 at 8 p.m. (MST).
If you’re a fan of GoPro Athlete Kai Lenny, then “The SUP Movie” is for you.
Follow the best stand up paddlers as they travel the world chasing perfect waves and unique perspectives from the people that know SUP the best. “I’m so proud of this film and the way it came out,” said Lenny. “It gives the viewer a real look at what it’s like to be out there.” “The SUP Movie” will be shown Friday, June 5 at 9 p.m. (MST).
Outdoor Reels’ caps off with “Cerro Torre.” Presented by Red Bull Media House, “Cerro Torre” tells the story of David Lama and his attempt of the first free-climb of the south-east face of Cerro Torre in Patagonia. A powerful coming of age story meets documentary on the state of rock climbing and alpinism. Cerro Torre will be shown Saturday, June 6 at 9 p.m. (MST).
“For years we’ve talked about having the Games’ Outdoor Reels Film Series actually be outdoors and this year we’ve managed to achieve that goal,” said Michael Imhof, senior vice president of sales & development at the Vail Valley Foundation.. “We know the audience experience will be heightened and even more enjoyable now that the films will be viewed outdoors.”
