Costa Mesa, CA, June 10, 2015-- In April 2015, a series of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks struck Nepal, killing over 8,000 people, injuring over 20,000, and leaving entire villages decimated in their wake. On June 25, Gear Coop and adidas Outdoor invite everyone to come together and Unite for Nepal, with all event proceeds from ticket sales going directly toward earthquake relief efforts.
“As the home of Mount Everest and its intrepid sherpas, Nepal holds a special place in outdoor lovers’ hearts,” said Terry Lee, founder and CEO of Gear Coop. “This is an incredible opportunity to give back to a community that has long embraced adventurers near and far. That’s why we’re ensuring that event proceeds are going directly to reliable aid and relief efforts that have been on the ground in Nepal since the very beginning of the devastation.”
The centerpiece of the event is an athlete well known for making the impossible look effortless: world-class climber Kevin Jorgeson. Along with several other notable first ascents of difficult climbs both roped and unroped, Jorgeson is best known for teaming up with Tommy Caldwell on the first free ascent of the Dawn Wall in Yosemite National Park. Arguably the blankest big wall climb in the world, the duo topped out in January 2015 after 19 days of strenuous climbing. Jorgeson will present an exclusive talk and slideshow of the experience, sharing how he overcame seemingly insurmountable odds--and proving that we can, too.
“Kevin is not only one of the most charismatic, inspiring figures we’ve encountered, but also one of the most keenly human,” noted Greg Thomsen, Managing Director of adidas Outdoor (one of Jorgeson’s sponsors). “We ask everyone who hears him ‘What’s your Dawn Wall?’ because they’re instantly driven to act on their passions. We are thrilled to have him at this event to voice his support for Nepal while also sharing his own gripping tale of determination.”
The $100 VIP ticket (limited to 50) guarantees you a meet and greet with Kevin Jorgeson, an exclusive gift bag filled with products from their sponsors, a front-row seat, and open bar access all night. The general admission ticket--$15 for the online presale, $20 at the door--gets you a free drink of your choice plus a raffle ticket.
Along with Jorgeson’s keynote, there will be a live auction and raffle for amazing products donated by top outdoor brands including GoPro, Black Diamond, CAMP, Arc’teryx, Petzl, 5.10, Evolv, Deuter, Oboz, Feetures!, Prana, Iron and Resin, Smith, Kreed/Crush, and more. In between programs, attendees can peruse an extensive vendor village and enjoy great food from Urban Pie, The Iron Press, and Capital Noodle Bar, plus libations from Ritual Brewing Co., Dewar’s, and Martini & Rossi. And there will be so much more to come!
