Business news : More jobs are cut at Corby boat builders, Fairline

The UK’s Fairline Boats has announced that up to 75 workers may lose their jobs at the company’s Oundle and Corby sites in Northamptonshire.

The news follows85 job losses at the UK boatbuilder in May this year and another 80 losses in 2011 following Fairline’s acquisition by private equity fund Better Capital.

Alistair Schofield, CEO of Fairline Boats, says: “It is with regret that we have to announce the risk of making up to 75 employees redundant at Fairline across the business.

This decision has been taken as a result of the latest business forecast for the second half of this year, where it has become necessary to amend our scheduled production rates in selected areas.

“The business is still forecasting growth in 2012. However, the announcement reflects the challenging nature of the global market.

“The shareholders of Fairline Boats are fully committed to the long-term future of the business. We continue to invest in new product development, enhancement of our production capabilities and further expansion of the brand across both existing and new markets globally.”

Fairline builds motoryachts from 12m-24m (38ft-78ft) across two ranges – Squadron and Targa.
