PALM COAST — Reporting solid growth
in 2013, Brunswick Corp. is poised to keep things moving by bringing
more jobs to its Sea Ray Boats facility in Flagler County.
Officials at the Lake
Forest, Ill.-based company said they will be adding more jobs at its
Palm Coast plant as production increases over the next several months.
“Our
Palm Coast facility will be adding approximately 160 positions over the
next several quarters to accommodate increased production, a result of
the plant integrating production of several new Sea Ray models,” company
spokesman Dan Kubera said in an email Wednesday.
The positions will be production jobs. Brunswick officials declined to release pay ranges for the new jobs.
That’s
good news for Flagler County, where the jobless rate has been near the
top of the list in Florida. The county’s unemployment rate in December
was 8.8 percent, second only to Hendry County’s 10.2 percent rate.
Brunswick’s plans are also good news for Palm Coast resident Robert Gamen, who has been looking for work since September.
“I’m applying daily,” he said, including looking for an opportunity at Sea Ray’s plant off of Roberts Road.
“I
think I might have a shot,” said Gamen, who has experience in carpentry
and cabinet making. “It’s a glimmer of hope we’re hoping to see more
of. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get something with
them.”
Brunswick officials
said nearly half of the positions are being added now, with the
remainder anticipated for start dates in the spring, summer and fall.
