Black Diamond Equipment®, a global innovator in climbing, skiing and mountain sports equipment, announces a series of recent product and business awards.
Most notably, Backpacker magazine selected Black Diamond’s ReVolt headlamp for one of its 2013 Editor’s Choice Awards. Presented every year since 1993, the Editor’s Choice Awards honor the products that Backpacker editors have chosen as the best of the year based on months of trail testing by teams of highly experienced backpackers, climbers and hikers. Additionally, both Trail Runner magazine and NationalGeographic.com honored the ReVolt with 2013 Editors’ Choice and Gear of the Year awards, respectively.

Climbing magazine awarded a 2013 Editor’s Choice award to Black Diamond’s Camalot X4, the newest and most advanced member of the gold-standard Camalot™ family. The Camalot X4 combines Black Diamond’s patent pending Stacked Axle Technology with a narrow head-width and integrated cam springs to offer more expansion range than any small cam on the market.
Lastly, OutdoorGearLab.com presented seven Editor’s Choice awards to Black Diamond in both climb and mountain product categories. Products awarded include: Camalot™, Chaos harness, Alpine Carbon Cork trekking poles, Bullet pack, ATC-XP belay device, Stone belay gloves and White Gold climbing chalk.
“We are extremely proud to receive these honors,” comments Ryan Gellert, Brand President of Black Diamond Equipment. “Winning these awards affirms our team’s ability to understand the needs of climbers, skiers and mountain athletes.”
Beyond product accolades, Peter Metcalf, CEO and President of Black Diamond Inc., was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Kirk Englehardt Business Ethics Award, an honor bestowed by the Utah Valley University’s Center for the Study of Ethics and its advisory boards. Metcalf is the ninth recipient of this prestigious, annual award.
“This award carries particular significance because even though I’m very proud of the products we make, it is the style in which we conduct our business that means the most to me,” states Metcalf.
Metcalf was also honored at the American Alpine Club’s fourth annual Hall of Mountaineering Excellence gala and induction ceremony. The AAC recognized Metcalf’s pioneering first ascents in Alaska, his 30 years of running Chouinard Equipment and Black Diamond Equipment, and his leadership in access, stewardship, education and scholarship within the climbing community. Along with Metcalf, fellow American mountaineers inducted for their mountaineering achievements included: Nick Clinch, Barry Corbet, Norman Dyhrenfurth and Jeff Lowe.
