When Toshikazu Kayano first started creating the ASICS GEL-Kayano, he thought he was just creating a running shoe. History would show that he was also creating a legacy. Since the first model appeared in 1993 the ASICS GEL-Kayano has gained iconic status amongst runners all over the world. The award-winning shoe continues to inspire 20 years after its introduction.
“Since its inception, the GEL-Kayano strives to be an industry leader by exceeding the expectations of those looking for a balanced mix of cushioning and stability,” explained Jim Monahan, Vice President, Footwear, ASICS America Corporation. “Each new version focuses on improving the fit, feel and ride. The 20th version is no exception in the continual development of this industry leading shoe.”
Designed for mild to moderate over-pronators, the GEL-Kayano 20 has been updated with the new ASICS FluidRide and FluidFit technology. FluidRide is the latest evolution in ASICS midsole technology, providing the ultimate in lightweight cushioning and bounce back, allowing runners to run longer and faster. The changes to the midsole have allowed for a new higher density SpEVA 55 lasting, which together with the exoskeletal clutch counter creates greater stability and gait efficiency from heel to toe. FluidFit uses a technical mesh for multidirectional stretch combined with other stretch materials to create a glove like fit.
“The GEL-Kayano 20 is built for the beginner runner all the way up to the professional, and has long been my training shoe of choice,” commented Olympian, Ironman World Champion, and elite ASICS athlete Andy Potts. “Celebrating 20 years of this legendary shoe is such an exciting landmark. The Kayano helps maintain my running form, keeping me away from injury and letting me do what I love, which is run. That’s why it’s the heartbeat of ASICS and it’s no wonder it’s been paving the way for 20 years.”
The innovative ASICS technologies such as rearfoot and forefoot GEL Cushioning System, the now synonymous full length guidance line and Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.) for enhanced gait efficiency, as well as the DYNAMIC DUOMAX midsole have all been introduced over the years and still exist today. Another example of the consistency and trust ASICS has in its technology.
The GEL-Kayano 20 is available now at retailers nationwide and on www.asicsamerica.com for a suggested retail price of $160.00
